Fire, Police to Train at ARC in August

The Activities and Recreation Center, or ARC, will be closed on the mornings of Aug. 19, 21 and 22 for a training exercise. The ɫ��ɫ and city of Davis police and fire departments will be practicing their response and coordination during an active shooter incident.

The drills will involve loud noises including simulated gunshots. There will be police and fire vehicles in Lot 25 and in the loading areas behind the ARC, and parking availability will be limited in the area .

Schiff Joins ɫ��ɫ Researchers Monitoring Health of Lake Tahoe

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-California) peered into the crystal-blue depths of Lake Tahoe as a crew from the Tahoe Environmental Research Center, or TERC, lowered a white disk into the water. “I can see about 63 feet,” declared the first-term senator.

3 Sports Make Conference Moves

Three ɫ��ɫ teams have announced plans to move to new conferences: Beach volleyball and men’s water polo will join the the West Coast Conference as affiliate members, while women’s water polo will join the Golden Coast Conference.

Alum Nathaniel Hartinger Named ɫ��ɫ Fire Chief

After more than a year serving as interim fire chief, Nathaniel Hartinger has been officially selected chief of the ɫ��ɫ Fire Department. The announcement follows a competitive, national search.

Alison Rader picked up the pink and green towel she had used as a mat, drew a deep breath and smiled. “I’ve been feeling kind of keyed up,” the rising senior said. “Yoga in the morning helps release some of that tension.”

Soon the statistics major was off to class in a fast-paced, six-week course in calculus, but not before Summer Sessions staff, who had organized the yoga class, invited her to the next day’s coffee and donut gathering for students before exams in the first summer session.

ɫ��ɫ Admits Record High Number for First-Year Studies

The ɫ��ɫ, has offered undergraduate admission for fall 2025 to 8.6% more applicants than last year — including a record high number for first-year status, according to statistics released today (July 28) by the University of California system.

Offers of admission were made to a record high of 45,963 applicants for first-year status (a 10.4% increase over last year) and 9,776 as transfer students (a 0.8% increase) for a total of 55,739. Of that total, 34,088 are California residents, an increase of 1.7% over last year.

ɫ��ɫ Grad Student Named New Student Regent

The University of California Board of Regents today (July 16) appointed ɫ��ɫ graduate student Miguel Craven as the 2026-27 student regent. Craven will serve from July 1, 2025-June 30, 2026 as student regent-designate. He will have voting privileges when his one-year term as student regent begins on July 1, 2026.
