UPDATED: ɫ��ɫ Fire Department Staffer Still Responding to Garnet Fire

Updated 11 a.m. Sept. 23: A member of the ɫ��ɫ Fire Department remains deployed to the Garnet Fire, Fire Chief Nate Hartinger said. The blaze has grown to nearly 60,000 acres and is 99 percent contained, the U.S. Forest Service said today.

UPDATED: All Personnel Back From Pickett Fire

Updated 3 p.m. Sept. 9: The final ɫ��ɫ Fire Department staffer deployed to the Pickett Fire in Napa County, a captain serving as strike team leader trainee, returned to campus Sunday (Sept. 7).

The fire reached full containment that same day, Cal Fire said.

Regional EMT Training at Giedt Hall Sept. 15

The ɫ��ɫ Fire Department will host a training event for regional EMS students on Monday (Sept. 15). Activities will take place all day in and outside Giedt Hall. One or two ambulances will be stationed nearby and there may be role-players with simulated injuries outside.

Alum Nathaniel Hartinger Named ɫ��ɫ Fire Chief

After more than a year serving as interim fire chief, Nathaniel Hartinger has been officially selected chief of the ɫ��ɫ Fire Department. The announcement follows a competitive, national search.

Vegetation Fire at Interstate 80-Highway 113 Junction

A vegetation fire that broke out this afternoon (June 21) near the junction of Highway 113 and Interstate 80 led to traffic restrictions on freeways in the area.

The ɫ��ɫ Fire Department responded just before 5 p.m. The fire burned about 15 acres, and its forward progress was stopped by about 6:30 p.m.

At the time of this writing, there do not appear to have been any impacts to people, animals or structures.

Fire Department Sends Crew to Boone Fire Near Coalinga

The ɫ��ɫ Fire Department announced today (Sept. 6) it is sending five staff members to assist with the fight against the Boone Fire near Coalinga.

Capt. Paul Rush will serve as a strike team leader trainee, and four others from the department will serve aboard Brush Truck 34: Capt. Derek Carthy; Engineer Michael Cullen; and Firefighters Johnita Cradit and Chris Hay.

The blaze started Tuesday, and is now 17,000 acres with 5% containment, Cal Fire said this afternoon.

UPDATED: Firefighters Head to Park Fire

Updated July 27: Personnel from the ɫ��ɫ Fire Department were reassigned Friday from the Gold Complex Fire to the Park Fire, which currently spans Butte, Plumas, Shasta and Tehama counties.

The Park Fire began near Chico and is more than 350,000 acres with 10% containment as of today, according to Cal Fire. That agency said the cause of the fire was arson.

At least 20 structures have been destroyed, Cal Fire said.

Campus Team Assists With Shelly Fire in Siskiyou County

A team from the ɫ��ɫ Fire Department is in its second week on the front lines of the Shelly Fire in Siskiyou County.

The firefighters left campus July 9 aboard Brush Truck 34, bound for the blaze, which started July 3 and had grown to 15,000 acres with 5% containment as of this morning (July 16), according to Cal Fire.

The fire is near the California-Oregon border.

Campus Fire Crews Assist on Front Lines of Wildfires

Updated June 25: The ɫ��ɫ Fire Department crew assigned to the Sites Fire returned to campus Sunday (June 23). The Sites Fire was 19,000 acres and 86% contained as of last night, according to Cal Fire.

Crews from the ɫ��ɫ Fire Department have been on the front lines of three wildfires this week, starting with the 900-acre Jackson Fire near Rancho Cordova on Sunday (June 16).

New Mobile Team Delivers Care to ɫ��ɫ Students
