On Oct. 15, the Office of Strategic Communications has requested that all websites and social media accounts across the university speak with one voice to highlight From Labs to Lives, to showcase the impact of federally funded research. There are easy ways for everyone to get involved.
A developed by Strategic Communications includes Canva templates, social media photo frames, Zoom backgrounds, email signature designs, and other resources to communicate support for ɫɫ’ federally funded research.
Organizers say the Oct. 15 “takeover” will create a flood of videos, articles, graphics and more showing the positive impact of the university’s federally funded research.
“The threat of federal funding cuts is real. Without this work, we’ll lose life-saving treatments and an entire generation of innovations,” said Dana Topousis, chief marketing and communications officer. “For 24 hours, across every department, unit and channel, we will speak as one and flood communication channels with the impact of federally funded research while articulating what we stand to lose.”
, available in Box to those with a ɫɫ login, includes easy ways to show your support of From Labs to Lives — and by extension, the stories on that site showing the impact of ɫɫ’ federally funded research — when sending an email or joining a virtual meeting. Animated GIFs and social media post templates are also available in the toolkit — don’t forget to use the hashtag #FromLabsToLives when sharing your support online.
The From Labs to Lives website also includes resources to submit stories about ways federally funded research has improved lives, information on joining the “Stand Up For UC” advocacy campaign and a link to donate to research projects.
The website got a new look last month, along with additional resources and more information on funding sources for research at ɫɫ. From Labs to Lives was launched in February.
The impact of research at ɫɫ
Interdisciplinary ɫɫ research alone builds the region’s economy, supporting $2 billion in California economic activity and nearly 10,000 jobs. It supports 1,290 active patents, spurred 119 startups in the last decade, and resulted in $15 million in annual licensing, royalties and fees. The university has a $13.2 billion impact on the state overall.
ɫɫ research contributes to solving global problems and keeping the United States as the world leader in technology and innovation. For example, this work is evident in the collaboration to study , how to feed a , and the discoveries made possible by ɫɫ science and engineering research.
